Raven Tershy, the 2011 Skateboard Park gold medalist, told ESPN.com on Friday that he recently rolled his ankle and will not be competing in Saturday's X Games final in Los Angeles. Tershy's not known as a contest skater but made a big X Games debut last year, beating out Pedro Barros and Ben Hatchell to take the podium as a follow-up to his win at the 2011 Copenhagen Pro.
This year he's been more focused on filming for the forthcoming Chocolate Skateboards video "Pretty Sweet," due out in October, and says he's skipping X Games to heal up for a trip to Spain filming with the Chocolate team later this month.
Barros and Hatchell will be big names to watch again this year: Barros has been on a tear lately, winning his second Pro Tec Pool Party in a row and taking wins at the Red Bull Skate Generation bowl contest in Brazil and Bowl-a-Rama contests in New Zealand and Australia in 2012 alone. Hatchell's an accomplished all-around skater with vert, park, and street skating chops; he won the Phoenix Am contest in April for the second year in a row.
Other skaters to watch for include Omar Hassan, Bucky Lasek, Rune Glifberg, Aaron "Jaws" Homoki, Andy Macdonald, Curren Caples, and Thrasher Magazine's 2011 "Skater of the Year" Grant Taylor.
The Skateboard Park and Women's Skate Street competitions will be airing on ESPN from 3 p.m. to 7 p.m. ET on Saturday, and the Skateboard Vert competition will be airing from 9 p.m. to 12 a.m. ET.
