X Games Los Angeles featured more auto competitions than usual this year as Gymkhana GRID and RallyCross Lites joined the mainstay RallyCross event. Ken Block helped bring Gymkhana GRID to X Games for the first time this year. But the man who made Gymkhana famous with his viral video series was knocked out in the quarterfinals by Liam Doran in the best-of-three head-to-head races.

Tanner Foust, Timur Timerzyanov
Tanner Foust and Timur Timerzyanov, right, battle for position on the last hairpin turn of the penultimate lap of Heat 4 at X Games Los Angeles. Foust prevailed to get second place and one of two spots in the main event. Timerzyanov had to try again in the last chance qualifier heat, but his car was too damaged to race the LCQ.
The usual first corner crunch takes out a number of RallyCross SuperCar contenders, including Liam Doran, Ken Block and Brian Deegan. But wily, skillful and lucky Toomas Heikkinen, second from left in white, manages to avoid the carnage. Block and Deegan went on to finish sixth and seventh, respectively. Doran didn't finish the race.

Topi Wins Again
Toomas "Topi" Heikkinen has been on a rally racing roll this year. He won the second of two RallyCross races at X Games Munich in June, then went on to win two more non-X rally races before taking home the gold at X Games Los Angeles on Sunday. The Finnish driver pulled into the lead early at the Irwindale Speedway and never looked back.
