    Minding your N's and Q's

      Paul Rodriguez

P-Rod's Q Score may be 25 to the average celeb's 17, but he doesn't fare nearly so well in the Nielsen/E-Poll rankings, pulling an N-Score of only 9 to Tony Hawk's 291. He and Rob Dyrdek are tied for appeal, though, at 57 percent. Good thing Rodriguez's most notable attribute is "down to earth" or all that marketability might go to his head.
    • 2null

      Tony Hawk

Hawk is the undisputed king of action sports when it comes to N-Scores, boasting a whopping 291-point total -- just a hair less than twice the score of Shaun White, his closest competition in the E-Polls. (P-Rod, incidentally, ranks an N-Score of 9 -- 0.03 percent of Hawk's ranking.) The people have spoken, and they have dubbed him a "trendsetter."
    • 3null

      Troy Polamalu

Polamalu plays strong safety for the Pittsburgh Steelers, helping the team win two Super Bowls since he came aboard in the 2003 NFL draft. Fans rank his most notable attribute as "exciting" (31 percent), which may owe entirely to his hair. Nonetheless, Tony Hawk still whomps him on N-Scores, coming in at 291 while Polamalu has earned only 58 points. Of all the athletes in this photo gallery, however, Polamalu is the second most appealing, racking up a percentage of 63 -- nearly 20 points more than Hawk.
    • 4null

      Ryan Sheckler

Sheckler has an N-Score of 26, with a 53 percent appeal rating. His notable attribute, according to Nielsen/E-Poll, is "attractive," at 30 percent.
    • 5null

      Jimmie Johnson

As a NASCAR Sprint Cup Series race car driver, Johnson's in front of American fans on the regular -- but that visibility doesn't impact his N-Score enough to put him ahead of some of skateboarding's favorites. At a total of 56 points, Johnson comes in behind Rob Dyrdek and Ryan Sheckler, not to metion Tony Hawk and Shaun White. Fans call him out as "confident" -- a trait that probably comes in pretty handy at 200 mph.
    • 6null

      Rob Dyrdek

Dyrdek more than doubles Sheckler's N-Score, with a ranking of 60, and his awareness rating, which hits at 15 percent, but the two are neck and neck in terms of appeal, with Dyrdek coming in at 57 percent to Sheckler's 53. Dyrdek's notable attribute? "Funny," at a cool 60 percent.
    • 7null

      Dwyane Wade

Eight-time All Star Dwyane Wade plays guard for the NBA's Miami Heat and is easily recognizable to mainstream stick-and-ball sports fans. Still, his N-Score of 55 lags behind Rob Dyrdek's (60), though he has earned nearly double Dyrdek's awareness rating (26 percent to 15 percent). Unsurprisingly, "physically fit" is D-Wade's most notable attribute in the E-Poll.
    • 8null

      Shaun White

Next to Tony Hawk, White has one of the highest N-Scores in the action-sports business, hitting the 157 mark. Known for being "kooky/wacky" (21 percentage points), White's got six points on Hawk for awareness (41 percent to 35) but is a full nine points below him in terms of appeal, ranking at 38 percent to Hawk's 47.
    • 9null

      Kevin Durant

Durant, a small forward for the Oklahoma City Thunder, is a former NBA Rookie of the Year, two-time member of the U.S. Olympic Basketball Team and led the league in scoring in the 2009-10 season -- the youngest player ever to earn that distinction. Seems logical, then, that his N-Score of 54 is six times that of P-Rod (9) and twice that of Ryan Sheckler (26). Shaun White's got the "talented" player smoked on awareness, however, ringing in 41 percentage points to Durant's 18.
