Athlete Bio

Taka has many firsts at X Games: In 2007, he became the first Japanese athlete to compete in an X Games MTX event. In 2010, he became the first Japanese MTX competitor to medal, earning Best Trick bronze. And in 2012, he made history again as the first Japanese with Freestyle gold. Oh, and he landed a first-in-competition trick, too: The Rock Solid backflip. In 2013, Taka was the most dominant freestyle competitor in the world. He won his third straight Freestyle gold in LA, becoming the only competitor besides Travis Pastrana to do it thrice. While his 2014 X Games bid was derailed because of weather, Higashino returns to the roster again in 2015 -- this time for the inaugural Quarterpipe competition.
