Paul Paterson grabs the bull by the horns. "Paddling Cow Bommie is the pinnacle for big wave surfing in Australia, it's our biggest and heaviest wave," says local Paul Morgan.
Surf spot parking lots are a place for gathering, sharing information, talking trash and talking each other into conditions you might not otherwise paddle out in.
A good wax job, a new leash rope, tighten up the screws, make sure the fins have the right foil for the job, it's all part of the checklist when preparing to surf a wave like Cow Bombie.
Morgan stoll the show at the Cow Bombie. "I rode four waves that day," he recalls. "Two warm-ups and two set waves with my last wave being one of my biggest paddle-ins of my life."
