What the U.S. teams will be wearing in Sochi
Jake Burton explains the theme of the outfits to the crowd gathered for the unveiling. In a statement released by Burton, the inspiration behind the design is this: "Nothing represents Americana more than handcrafted patchwork quilts and the American flag, which are both at the heart of the 2014 uniform."
Olympic halfpipe hopeful Danny Davis displays the working-man-themed mittens. For those who prefer the use of all of their fingers while riding, there are also gloves.
According to Burton, "corduroy was chosen for the pant fabric since it has been a staple of American clothing for generations. To ensure the highest level of performance, Burton sourced a highly technical corduroy fabric -- which is also featured on the shoulders of the Competition Jacket." Alas, the jackets don't feature an awesome patch, as seen here on the the Burton-designed 2010 Olympic uniforms.
The vintage quilt-and-flag print of the jacket combined with the corduroy pants give the uniform an heirloom/hippy vibe that lines up with snowboarding's laid-back culture while paying respect to America's longstanding creative heritage," explained Greg Dacyshyn, chief creative officer at Burton. "It will stand out in Sochi for sure."
