    JLA is snowboarding

Mammoth Mountain will play host to the first-ever JLA Banked Slalom on Feb. 23rd, an event to honor legendary pro rider and artist Jeff Anderson, who died 10 years earlier at age 23. "I can't believe it has been 10 years. After Jeff died my biggest fear [was that] people would forget about him," says Billy Anderson, Volcom vice-president of snowboarding and brother to Jeffy. "It has been so comforting to have the support of all Jeff's friends and the snowboard industry over these past 10 years. This is a great way to remember a great friend and brother."

Courtesy Mammoth Mountain Ski Area/VolcomEvery division's full up, but that doesn't mean you can't post up alongside Upper Dry Creek and cheer on the crew.

Anderson's mom, Jane Baer, who represents The JLA Project, told XGames.com that pros Danny Davis, Pat Moore, Seth Huot and Dave Downing plan on attending. Gigi Rüf will be there, fresh off a win at the Ultra Natural, too. Public sign-up spots are all filled, unfortunately, but this gathering of the tribe will surely be a reason to go shred Mammoth -- Anderson's home mountain -- and check out the session.

The banked slalom is the newest iteration of JLA tribute projects that have so far included a traveling art show and a rideable art park at Mammoth that has to be seen to be believed. The point at which snowboarding and creativity meet will always carry Anderson's passion, it seems.

"Jeff was about passion," explains Baer. "He wore his heart on his sleeve and he never minced words about the things he loved. He wasn't afraid to take a stand or say he loved you. He loved deeply: snowboarding, art and his brother. He was loyal to friends, sponsors and his sport. He showed his anger as he hated to lose or when he hit a bad golf shot. Jeff's best friend, Yale Miller, summed it up best: 'Kiss your mother, break your board and always love the girl that doesn't love you back.'"
