Pro skier Will Wesson has been on the road this summer, traveling from summer camps like Woodward Copper, shown here with skier Erik Olson, to Windells at Mount Hood, Oregon. In this gallery, he takes us on the road with him to the freeskiing camps currently in session.
Life in a Cloud
Mount Hood, Oregon, is known for its sunny skies and near perfect summer days, but it's not always that way. When I first arrived, the volcano was wet and windy with low visibility and sub-par conditions. Here's Nicky Keefer at Mount Hood.
Lupe Hagearty tailpresses in between whiteouts on Mount Hood, Oregon. The next day saw some improvement with breaks in the clouds and passing sun. But luckily, Windells is located high on the mountain and above most cloud inversions.
Nicky Keefer slides a rail above the clouds. When the cloud layer drops and the winds calm down, Mount Hood is every park skier's dream. Soft landings, plentiful sun and some of the best parks (winter or summer) in the world are the perfect recipe for progressing tricks in the offseason while most are dreaming of snow.

Garrett Russell handplants over a tube at Copper Mountain, Colorado. While most people in Summit County are mountain biking or hiking through green forests, Copper keeps the winter alive with public sessions every weekend and private on-snow camps during June and July. Plus, a higher than average snowfall in Colorado this winter allowed the camp to have more features than ever before and operate a surface lift for the first time in the camp's existence.
Garrett Russell gets the illusive "nose block backpack grab" while Jon Hartman slashes below during Line Skis week at Copper Mountain. This quarterpipe was definitely one of the most popular features amongst the group with a solid session of handplants, stalls and airs going down every day.
Garrett Russell ready to rumble at the go-karts. After lunch at Woodward Copper, there is the option to continue skiing, but in the hottest part of the day, many kids opt for go-karts or to go indoors to jump on trampolines or skate.
Erik Olson enjoying summertime in the mountains in Colorado. Most summer skiing destinations are scenic, but usually located in high alpine areas with little vegetation or plants nearby. Woodward Copper is only part way up the mountain and has a backdrop with a little bit of everything. Green aspens, darker pine trees and bare mountain tops all make up the views next to Interstate 70 at the base of Vail Pass.
Joey Van Der Meer
Joey "Scrappy Joe Young" Van Der Meer slides a drop rail with Mount Hood looming in the background. While skiers and snowboarders travel from all around the globe to enjoy Mount Hood in the summer, there is also plenty of local talent. Big name pros like Eric Pollard and Sammy Carlson grew up nearby and there are plenty of up and comers (like Van Der Meer) making names for themselves as well.
