Behind the Scenes: Yuki Tsubota
Yuki's Week in Aspen
Canadian slopestyle skier Yuki Tsubota placed eighth in the women's finals on Sunday at X Games Aspen 2014. But what did the rest of her week look like? We followed her around to find out.
Tsubota leaves her hotel early in the morning to get a good day of practice in on the slopestyle course at Buttermilk.
A key aspect before an event is to get your body warmed up and ready. Here, Tsubota does some leg swings at the bottom of the slopestyle course to warm her legs up.
Tsubota takes the snowmobile up to the top of the slope course, then skis down through the course, practicing her tricks, over and over again. This is repeated numerous times almost every day, making sure she has everything dialed in for the final day.
As she waits at the top of the course to get a practice run in on the morning of competition day, a lot is going through Tsubota's mind. She's visualizing her entire run and figuring out minor tweaks she can make to improve her score.
Tsubota tunes up her skis in the X Games athlete lounge, making sure her skis are in prime condition for the next day of skiing. One of the hard working ski techs may or may not have been just out of the photo giving her a few tips.
She arrives back at the hotel pretty late at night after a long day of skiing. It's finally time to sit back and relax, before it all starts again the next day.
Tsubota catches up on emails, Facebook and just checking in with friends and family while she was here in Aspen.
Back at her hotel, Tsubota grabs a bite to eat, then heads to bed so she can get up early for the next day of skiing.
