    Stept's 'The Eighty Six'

    By John Symms

    Published Thursday August 2, 2012

"The Eighty Six," the latest release from Stept Productions is now available at SteptProductions.com. Nick Martini, producer of the Boulder, Colo.-based ski video company, posted the new trailer on his Facebook page this week, writing, "Who knew it would ever come this far."

Hailing from Winchester, Mass., Nick and his brother Alex Martini started Stept 10 years ago when they moved west with cameras in hand. Their early projects caught movie goers' attention with urban skiing that was well ahead of its time in terms of creativity, difficulty and above all, risk. Being consistently at the forefront of urban skiing, Stept garnered a loyal following and has recently begun to reap critical acclaim.

In 2010, the company's eighth release, "NetWork," was named Best Amateur Film at the International Freeskiing Film Festival. Last year, Stept moved into the pro category at the festival and won Best Jib Movie with "Weight." That film also received a nomination for Best Cinematography at the 2012 Powder Video Awards.

In addition to growing success as a company, Stept has served as a jumping-off point for the film careers of some of its key athletes. Stept headliner Cam Riley has been nominated for Best Jib PVAs in both 2011 and 2012 for his segments in "NetWork" and "Weight."

Two winters ago, Riley netted a spot in "The Grand Bizarre" after Poor Boyz Productions brought him on to boost their urban skiing offering. Sean Jordan and Clayton Vila also got the attention of Poor Boyz with their appearances in Stept films. All three appear this year as headlining athletes in both "The Eighty Six," from Stept and Poor Boyz Productions new film, "WE: A Collection of Individuals."
