Big Boy of Power 106 FM radio show "Big Boy's Neighborhood" (L) interviewed skateboarder Paul Rodriguez (R) about his decision to part ways with Plan B.

X Games skateboarder Paul Rodriguez has left Plan B Skateboards, his board sponsor of eight years, to start his own company. Rodriguez spoke about his departure earlier this week on "Big Boy's Neighborhood," a radio show on Power 106 FM in Los Angeles.

According to Rodriguez, the split from Plan B was amicable. He emphasized that he enjoyed riding for the company and that bad blood wasn't the reason he left. "It's not necessarily an exit in a negative way. It's all love and we're all family over there," he said on air. "It's just that I'm at this point in my career where I just kind of want to take some ownership of myself."

Like every fan, Big Boy wanted to know what's next for P-Rod. "Are you on Plan C?" he asked, half joking. Rodriguez responded affirmatively, saying, "I'm working that out. The plan is under way."

The biggest takeaway from this announcement is that having greater control of his future is what compelled P-Rod to make this decision. When asked if, moving forward, he was working on a new project himself, or perhaps with someone else, Rodriguez said, "It's just going to be something where I'm a little bit in control of myself. Not that I wasn't free with Plan B; I don't want [what I said] to come out wrong."

Although it may appear sudden, in Rodriguez's mind this summer was the right time to leave Plan B. But don't expect his new venture to happen overnight. "We're working on it," he said of the timing. "I'm not in a rush. I just knew that if I didn't make a move [now], I never would make a move."

Rodriguez will compete in Street League Skateboarding at X Games Los Angeles beginning Aug. 2 at 3 p.m. ET.
