      Iggy And The Stooges

One of the most anticipated high-energy shows was undoubtedly Iggy And The Stooges -- a definite SXSW highlight. For a 65-year-old punk, Iggy showed no signs of slowing down. The Stooges were joined by bass veteran Mike Watt of Firehose and just released a new album on Fat Possum Records titled "Burn."

      The Soft Moon

San Francisco's dark-wave outfit The Soft Moon rocked the Parish on the last night of SXSW. Originally a solo project and never intended for public ears, The Soft Moon has gone from full-on neo/synthpunk to a sensory experience way beyond frontman Luis Vasquez's low-fi apartment tape recordings.

      Maserati

Psychedelic post-rockers Maserati might have lost their legendary drummer Jerry Fuchs (RIP), but his skin-smashing spirit lives on through new drummer Mike Albanese.

      Jason And The Kruegers

At any given time, on any street corner, at SXSW, this is happening: Bands playing takeaway shows with shoe-box amps and, in this case, cow skull and pelvis guitars. Jason And The Kreugers, a horror-metal band from Louisiana, take on the corner of 7th and Red River.

      Green Day

Billie Joe Armstrong salutes a sold-out ACL Theater audience before dragging a young fan from the pit, kissing her on the lips and sending her stage-diving into the crowd. Dream come true for that gal!

      FIDLAR

L.A. skate-punk buzz band FIDLAR tear up house parties as often as they shred huge concerts, and SXSW was no different. Their F-it attitude and adrenaline-fueled antics often fire up their fans to charge the stage. FIDLAR covered The Descendants' "Suburban Home" during this set, mostly with guitarist Zac Carper flat on his back and rolling around onstage.

      Chelsea Light Moving

Thurston Moore's new band, Chelsea Light Moving, is a flashback to early Sonic Youth-influenced jangle riffage and punk-catalog homage. With a nod to the generation of Moore, now 54, this set was dedicated to Will Burroughs and Roky Erickson of 13th Floor Elevators. Moore is truly the Peter Pan of indie rock.

      Charles Bradley

Charles Bradley, aka The Screaming Eagle Of Soul, left no dry eye in the house after his daytime performance, giving it his all. He walked off stage in sweat and tears after his last song, hugged audience members and genuinely thanked them for being there. A humble man, now in his 60s, Bradley was recently discovered by Daptone Records and his debut record was cut shortly thereafter.
