X Games adds RallyCross race to Munich

Days of rain saturated the RallyCross course at X Games Barcelona, causing the event to be cancelled. In Munich, X Games will host an additional RallyCross race.

A second RallyCross medal race has been added to the X Games Munich competitive schedule this month as the action sports event's global expansion touches down in Germany.

The new race -- which will be run on the afternoon of June 29 -- is a welcome addition to the competitive schedule, Tim Reed, X Games senior director of content strategy and sports and competition, told XGames.com. "It's going to be interesting to see two RallyCross races on the same weekend."

Both races will feature the same list of invited athletes. Tanner Foust, Ken Block, Brian Deegan and X Games Foz gold medalist Scott Speed top the lineup. Travis Pastrana will not make it to Munich because of a NASCAR scheduling conflict.

RallyCross was canceled last month at X Games Barcelona because of adverse weather conditions, and this new race -- featuring the same invitees, prize money and medals -- "allows us to get back up to the same number of races we had originally planned for [at the outset of the season]," Reed said.

Unfortunately, Reed added, because of permitting restrictions, the public will not be able to watch the race in person. It will, however, be accessible live at ESPN3 and on the ESPN prime-time broadcast.

X Games Munich begins June 27.
