X Games MUSIC Presents
For the second year in a row, X Games MUSIC will bring internationally acclaimed musical acts to Aspen to perform live during the event. France's Grammy-winning band Phoenix, Brooklyn's Matt and Kim, Swedish DJ Axwell and the electronic music superstar Tisto, pictured here, are all on tap.In honor of the lineup announcement, we asked a few X Games athletes about their favorite concert experiences. Read on to find out what they had to say.
"It's hard to say what my favorite band is. Metallica is definitely up there -- maybe Young Jeezy," says X Games Slopestyle sliver medalist Sage Kotsenburg. "I really am not a frequent concertgoer, but my friends and I went to an Insane Clown Posse concert. It was crazy; we painted our faces and everything. None of us had heard one of their songs before."
"I love live concerts," says X Games snowmobile gold medalist Daniel Bodin. His best shows to date? "Motrhead [pictured left] in Norway, 2011; Turbonegro in Sweden, 2009; AC/DC in Sweden, 2010; and Metallica in Sweden, 2011. This is the music that pumps me up, and I listen to it every time before I ride. I'm sure I would not [be] as good as I am today without them."
"My favorite band right now is Edward Sharpe and the Magnetic Zeros," says Olympian and X Games Superpipe multi-medalist Elena Hight. "I've seen them in concert a few times. They are amazingly entertaining. A band of 10 people definitely knows how to show the crowd a good time."
Hibbert has just one concert to his credit: Linkin Park in Inglewood, Calif., in 2004. "He simply doesn't have time," says Mandi, wife and manager to the SnoCross champ, who won his first X Games gold at age 15. "But his best friend talked him into going. I wouldn't call him a sheltered kid; he just grew up as a pro athlete on the straight and narrow. He was wide-eyed at the concert. He felt completely out of his element."
"I mostly listen to hip-hop and everything with a good beat," says two-time X Games gold medalist Seb Toots. "Wiz Khalifa and Jay-Z are my favorites. I would love to see them live. I haven't before. I have seen Metric and it was awesome! That's the only [concert I've been to] so I would have to say that is the best one I've seen so far."
Grete Eliassen loves rap, hip-hop and R&B. Her favorite artist is Trina. "Trina actually came to Utah once and I was not going to miss that concert," Eliassen says. "And you are not going to believe it, but the unbelievable happened. She pulled me up on stage and gave me my own microphone and we sang her song, 'Single Again,' together. It was the most unreal moment of my life."
"I would say my best concert was Pennywise a few years back in my home state of Minnesota," says 2013 X Games Aspen double gold medalist Levi LaVallee. "I am buddies with the drummer Byron, and the band let me on stage to sing the end of 'Bro Hymn' with them. 'Wooooaoooah Woooah Woooah Wooah!' It was so cool of them to let me do that!"
