X Games L.A. Music Announced
This August, the X Games will make its final stop of the year in Los Angeles, marking the end of a six-city global tour -- and an 11-year run of annual events in Southern California. Though the departure is bittersweet (and the next host city yet undisclosed), X Games MUSIC plans to pay some serious homage to the city that lies at the heart of action-sports culture, offering up a mix of performers that represent the diverse sounds of the region.
To accommodate the wide array of disciplines on tap, X Games L.A. will take place at two venues: the traditional L.A. LIVE/STAPLES Center area and, new this year, Irwindale Event Center. Each location will host a different musical showcase so no fan is left out of the experience. Those purchasing competition tickets for the Irwindale Event Center are welcome to watch Thursday and Friday nights' sets as part of their daily admission to the event, while event-goers downtown can catch a four-act performance at L.A. LIVE's Club Nokia on Friday night for just $30. Can't make it to the show? All concerts will be webcast live on XGames.com.
Thurs., Aug. 1
AWOLNATION, Irwindale Event Center, 8-9 p.m. PT
AWOLNATION, fronted by Aaron Bruno and supported by Red Bull Records, has earned swift success since their debut record was released just two years ago. The band's rock/indie-influenced singles have appeared on TV shows, commercials and movies -- including, most recently, "Iron Man 3: Heroes Fall -- Music Inspired by the Motion Picture" -- and have even been covered by the likes of Macy Gray. The group is currently at work on a new album.
Madeon, Irwindale Event Center, 9:30-10:30 p.m. PT
While he couldn't quite reach the Alps for his X Games Tignes set back in March, French EDM DJ/producer Madeon will more than make good on his promise to perform when he drops the beat in L.A. Though he's just 19 years old, he's been making music on his own since age 11, coming into mainstream focus with the release of his 39-song mash-up, "Pop Culture," which he released on YouTube in 2011 and which has surpassed 19 million views.
Fri., Aug. 2
Pepper, Irwindale Event Center, 7:30-9 p.m. PT
Fans of the signature SoCal sound couldn't ask for a more fitting headliner at Irwindale Friday night than Pepper. Originally from Kailua Kona, Hawaii, the three-piece band has called the mainland home since '99 and their sound speaks right to the beach lifestyle that calls so many to Los Angeles every year. This sixth, eponymous album was just released this year, so new material is sure to be on the set list.
The Presets, Tanlines, Robert DeLong, FMLYBND, Club Nokia at L.A. LIVE, 8:30 p.m.-2 a.m.
EDM one-man band Robert DeLong played an intimate set at X Games Tignes 2013 and will be back for a repeat performance at X Games Los Angeles. A current L.A. resident, DeLong will play to his hometown crowd along with fellow electronic-music acts Tanlines, The Presets and FMLYBND, taking over Club NOKIA for a closing X Games MUSIC showcase that's sure to carry the event out on a high note.
Tickets are now on sale for X Games Los Angeles, both online and at the STAPLES Center and Irwindale Event Center box offices. Stay tuned to XGames.com for current performance schedules, as artists, set times and venues are subject to change.
