Twelve Riders, One Question: Changes in BMX
12 Riders, 1 Question
If you could change one thing about BMX, what would it be? We asked 12 of the top riders and BMX personalities today that very question, and here's the responses we got.
Companies are too generic. Anyone can start a company. You don't need an engineering background do design a frame. You could draw one on a napkin and get it made in Taiwan. And because of that, companies now make the same product and call it innovative.
I would change the hate in BMX. I've said things at times that were negative, but it's still not necessary. People hate on things they don't understand, but we're all riding bikes. I feel like there's not the same type of hate in other action sports.
The seriousness! BMX is about creativity and individuality. Let's not forget that everyone is different but we all love BMX. Take away the hate and keep it fun.
The attitudes of the people involved with it. People need to chill out on the winning and focus more on the fun. Riders are trying to be all serious and train for contests, that's boring. I'm a wild and crazy guy.
I'd change the hate in BMX. We would have more power to direct our own industry all together. It doesn't mean you have to like every aspect of BMX but at least support it enough to be united. Too many people like drama right now.
I know it's cheesy to say nothing, but I find it hard to think of what I would change about it. I think some of the negative things about BMX are what make BMX cool. But If I could change one thing about BMX, it would be no more flat tires.

I don't think I would change anything. I love BMX just the way it is. It's been great since the first day I started riding. If anything, I would love to see more jams like Texas Toast, FBM Ghetto Jams, BoneDeth. I never had a chance to attend those.
I'd change the hate. Everyone needs to chill out and support everyone that rides a bike no matter what he or she rides or how they ride. BMX needs to be a family again like it was back in the day.
If there was one thing I could change, it would be for people to relax. It's called freestyle BMX, the freedom to do whatever you want with a BMX bike. There's no right way or wrong way, and the only thing that should matter is the smile on your face.
I would change the amount of BMX parks compared to skate-only parks. BMX plazas, flow parks, parks with trails and flatland areas, more areas to ride equals more fun for everyone. Hopefully that is what I am going to have a hand at in the future also.
That people would stop hating on stupid things. BMX is meant to have fun, not criticize everyone on how they ride their bike.
