Torronteras, Stenberg renew Whip rivalry
One of the most OG tricks dating back to Day 1 of freestyle motocross becoming a sport is the whip. When done perfectly, it is like looking at one of history's most iconic art pieces dating back hundreds of years. Simply put, a good whip is timeless.
Jeremy Stenberg and Edgar Torronteras know this all too well. Being masters of the whip, they have found themselves in a back and forth battle throughout the 2013 Global X Games.
The first stop in Brazil saw Jeremy Stenberg take the gold, followed by Torronteras answering back at the second stop in his hometown of Barcelona, Spain, for his first X Games gold medal. Stenberg then came back in Munich to reclaim top honors, bringing his Best Whip gold medal total to four to go along with two golds from Best Trick. Both riders are highly accredited for their whips, Torronteras' whips on his Yamaha two-stroke 250cc motorcycle are some of the most exciting, heart shocking whips out there while Stenberg's proper style and beauty of his massive turn ups, upside down whips carry him through the air like an eagle soaring through the flight.
In front of Stenberg's hometown crowd at the final stop in Los Angeles it will be tough for the Spanish FMX ace because the whip contest is judged merely on fan voting and it will start around 4 a.m. in his home country. And with Stenberg having well more than 250,000 followers throughout his social media platforms, he will again be the favorite in the contest that will also include Nate Adams, Josh Hansen, Robbie Maddison and Vicki Golden.
Tune in to ESPN and WatchESPN at 10:15 p.m. ET Thursday to judge for yourself and then tweet @XGames with your choice with the hashtag they announce.
