Downtown Los Angeles will no longer be the backdrop for Big Air and RallyCross. Those events will move to the Irwindale Events Center for X Games Los Angeles in August, joining the debut of Gymkhana GRID.

RallyCross and Big Air competitions at X Games Los Angeles are relocating from the city center to a motorsports facility 20 miles east of downtown, where it will join a new X Games event: Ford Gymkhana GRID.

Located in Irwindale, Calif., the Irwindale Event Center, which features banked oval tracks, a drag strip and stadium seating, will host GoPro BMX Freestyle Big Air, America's Navy Skateboard Big Air, Ford RallyCross, and the debut of Gymkhana GRID. A racing series inspired by Ken Block's "Gymkhana" videos, the grid course features winding and twisting turns in a two-man drift race. The new venue will also host elements of X Games Music and X Fest.

"One of the big things about this [shift to Irwindale] has to do with having more space," Tim Reed, X Games senior director of content strategy and sports and competition, told XGames.com. "As you now, there's a lot going on in downtown L.A. during X Games, and moving these events out to Irwindale allows us space to breathe. We'll be able to accommodate more spectators and have more built-in infrastructure."

All other skateboard, BMX, and Moto X competitions will be held in downtown Los Angeles at the Staples Center and the Event Deck at L.A. Live for X Games' final year in L.A.

"With the X Games global expansion and move to a six-event model, we have the opportunity to produce different events across the globe and showcase a very diverse sports lineup," Reed said in a statement. "We look forward to the addition of Ford Gymkhana Grid and seeing favorites like Moto X Racing return to X Games Los Angeles."

Like recent years past, fans will be able to "pick and choose which events they'd like to attend," with tickets sold separately for each, according to Danny Chi of ESPN's public relations department. There will be no package deals for both venues. Nor will shuttles be provided to ferry fans back and forth from Irwindale and downtown Los Angeles, he added.

ESPN and ABC will combine to offer 19 live hours of X Games Los Angeles 2013 original programming; WatchESPN will carry every event on ESPN networks, and an additional four-and-a-half hours of original content will be available across computers, smartphones, tablets and Xbox consoles in the U.S.

Starting June 21, tickets for X Games Los Angeles 2013 will be available at www.axs.com/xgames.
