Time to add stroller derby to the list of new X Games disciplines? On Tuesday, X Games gold medalists Travis Pastrana and Lyn-Z Adams Hawkins Pastrana announced via Facebook that "baby Pastrana" is officially on the way.
"Looks like Lyn-Z Adams Hawkins Pastrana and I have a baby Pastrana on the way," Pastrana wrote, announcing the news to his 4.3 million Facebook followers. "Thumbs Up!"
Pastrana, who made the jersey No. 199 legendary as a freestyle motocross and rally car racing champion before moving on to pursue his nascent NASCAR career, broke the news with a photo of custom jerseys for himself, Mrs. Pastrana, and No. 199½. Pastrana has won a 17 X Games medals while wearing the No. 199, including nine gold medals in various Moto X events and two in Rally events.
Lyn-Z, a professional skateboarder, posted a below-the-knees photo of herself standing on a skateboard on the flat section of a halfpipe posing with a "Baby on Board" sign, with Travis standing by her side and a pair of toddler-sized sneakers from Pastrana's DC Shoes sponsor in front. The baby is due in September, according to her post.
"Travis Pastrana and I are stoked to announce Baby Pastrana expected to be 'Dropping In' to this world 9/2013," she wrote. Lyn-Z Adams Hawkins Pastrana has won eight X Games medals, including three women's Skateboard Vert gold medals, in 2004, 2007 and 2009. Prior to the news of her pregnancy she was considered a favorite in the new Women's Skateboard Park event, set to debut in May during X Games Barcelona 2013.
Pastrana very publicly proposed to Lyn-Z on the Megaramp after one of her runs during a June 2011 Nitro Circus event in Las Vegas; the couple were married in October 2011.
On Saturday, Pastrana finished 10th in the NASCAR Nationwide Series season opener in Daytona, Fla. Even before his best career finish he has been declaring his 100 percent commitment to NASCAR, setting aside his freestyle motocross career in the meantime. But he has said he plans to continue competing in Global RallyCross and will "be racing as many GRC events as I can this year," presumably including the X Games Los Angeles 2013 event.
"I'm not retired from motorcycles but for now It's time to go race some cars," he wrote in a blog post Monday at TravisPastrana.com.
