Video competitions aren't exactly a new concept in the realm of BMX, but this puts a different spin on the theme. Working with BMX brands Colony, Demolition, Haro, SE Bikes, DK, and Redline, Woodward West invited the six BMX teams over the summer to ride Woodward West Camp in Tehcahpi, Calif. and film six team-specific YouTube sections, to be judged on by BMX fans.
Through November 23, voters are encouraged to watch the videos on the Woodward West website and vote for their favorite team. The winner and finishing order will be decided evenly between the public's online voting (50%) and Woodward's panel of judges (50%). And to make things more interesting, Woodward West put up over $10,000 in prize money for the teams involved. First place gets $4000, second gets $3000, third gets $2000, fourth gets $1000 and fifth gets $500. Voting ends at midnight on Friday, Nov. 23, with the results being announced on Nov. 27.
The videos cover everything within Woodward West's varied terrain, from dirt to street to vert to flatland, and features an array of riders that includes everyone from Dennis McCoy to Chris Doyle to Fernando Sabat. Up above, I've decided to feature the DK Bicycles team video based on the fact that they actually started the video off with gymnastics instead of BMX. I've seen a lot of crazy things in BMX videos in my day, but I've never seen anyone rip off their callouses going for a transfer on a parallel bar.
Head over to the Woodward West site to check all of the videos and log your vote.
