Professional skateboarder Greg Myers was arrested and charged with attempted carjacking, child abuse, child endangerment, violation of probation, and two misdemeanor warrants for shoplifting and DUI in Hemet, Calif. last Thursday, according to police.
The intended victim was driving on a Hemet street with her adult daughter her two grandchildren, who are 10 and 4 years old. Realizing that one of the car's doors was not properly closed, the driver pulled to the side of the road to shut the door, police said. According to the victim's statement, the suspect, Myers, reached in an open window grabbing the 10-year-old child's arm. He demanded the victim turn over the vehicle, at which point she accelerated and the family got away and called the police.
The child was not injured, and local police carried out a full inspection of the vehicle, looking for evidence while additional police officers carried out a local search, both efforts offered no results.
Hours later, Hemet police officers responded to reports of a suspicious person from a homeowner in a residential neighborhood. Arriving on the scene the officers saw a man jump off a roof into an adjoining backyard. Several more police cars replied to the call and they began a yard-to-yard search for the suspect.
Once police had the suspect in custody, one of the arresting officers ascertained that the man's clothing matched the description of the carjacking suspect. The two adult victims positively identified Myers as the man who had attempted to marshal their car hours earlier and he was arrested.
Myers, once sponsored by DC Shoes, (appearing alongside Danny Way in the DC Video), Active and Krew, is currently being held in police custody facing multiple felony charges with $65,000 bail.
