Travis Pastrana hasn't been seen on a motocycle much since shattering his ankle in the Moto X Best Trick competition at X Games in 2011, but he nearly pulled off an "American roll" on a BMX bike.
The action sports star, NASCAR Nationwide driver and Global RallyCross driver told Redbullusa.com he'd been trying the double backflip with a full twist into a foam pit for years and recently came across an Australian kid doing the same and naming it the "Aussie roll."
"This was the practice set up for the Plymouth Nitrocross event this weekend," Pastrana told Redbullusa.com about the jump earlier this month at Plymouth Speedway in Indiana. "It looked like the perfect place to attempt the 'America roll.' The timing couldn't have been better, since I had shoulder surgery scheduled for tomorrow anyway. Unfortunately, Hubert [Rowland] took the 'rezi' landing cover with him, and bicycles don't roll well in mulch!"
As you can see in the above video, Pastrana just about nailed it but not without some damage to his undercarriage.
