This past summer, Bradley Wiggins, a member of the British cycling team known as Team Sky, won the 2012 Tour de France in Paris, France. Wiggins won the Tour on a bike known as the Pinarello Dogma 2, handmade in Italy of carbon fiber with a retail price that reaches close to $16,000 in the U.S.
Enter U.K. MTB trials professional Martyn Ashton. Ashton is largely credited with pushing the discipline of trials riding into more mainstream circles in the cycling world. He's competed, performed demos and has even designed his own line of bikes alongside the Diamond Back brand.
How the bike that won the 2012 Tour de France came to meet Ashton remains a mystery. Let's just say that Ashton got his hands on a Pinarello Dogma 2, knowing that it won the Tour de France. And to celebrate, he decided it deserved a "Road bike party."
Ashton joined forces with filmmaker Robin Kitchin, and using his MTB skills, put the Pinarello Dogma 2 to the ultimate test, riding skateparks, bridge expanses, golf courses and more in the above video. Ashton not only manages to backflip the bike several times -- he proves that the frame's carbon fiber construction can handle much more than dedicated road riding.
The video debuted yesterday, and in the same fashion as Danny MacAskill's past trials videos, word spread pretty fast. "I'm a bit stunned by the response to The 'Road Bike Party' video," said Ashton, adding that it would be great if Team Sky members Bradley Wiggins and Mark Cavendish would check it out. "Come on boys, give it a look," commented Ashton.
The jury remains out on Team Sky's reaction, but the video has gained over a half a million views in one day.
