    This Is My Pink Ribbon

    By Robin Fleming

    Published Thursday October 4, 2012

October is Breast Cancer Awareness month, an annual worldwide health campaign that began in 1985 to help raise awareness and funds for breast cancer research and provide care for those afflicted with the disease.

Keep A Breast Foundation has been one of action sports most active and well received non-profits and today they've launched a new campaign, "this is my pink ribbon", including a video that features skaters Windsor James, Jon Goemann, Salman Agah, Kenny Anderson and a host of industry insiders including skateboard photographers Yoon Sul and Giovanni Reda.

Since the early '90's the pink ribbon has come to represent breast cancer and it helps to promote awareness. Keep A Breast manufactures their iconic "I love boobies" rubber bracelets for a younger generation. However it serves the same purpose as the pink ribbon: to educate young people by opening a dialog about breast cancer and to identify the wearer as a supporter of the cause.

The "this is my pink ribbon" video and the online hashtag campaign are an opportunity for supporters to share why they wear their "I love boobies" bracelet, be it for a mother, sister, grandmother, or in Windsor James's case, an influential teacher of his who suffered from breast cancer.

Keep A Breast founder Shaney Jo Darden explains, "Everyday I look at each and every photo people post on our social media, and read the reasons why they support KAB and am moved by every story. We knew that it was these stories that needed to be shared. When we had the idea to showcase Keep A Breast ambassadors to represent the stories of millions of people out there that wear their bracelets, we immediately thought of the action sports community. It is such a part of us and our story. We are just thankful that so many were brave enough to step forward and share their reasons, and can't wait to hear why everyone else wears their bracelets."

For almost fifteen years, Keep A Breast has educated and inspired people via their programs, which are geared toward the younger generation, through music, art and action sports. Considering that in the US alone, a woman is diagnosed with breast cancer every three minutes, it's imperative that organizations like Keep A Breast continue their mission to educate and rally support for the cause To donate please go to keep-a-breast.org.
