Gabriel Christus/ESPN ImagesBrett Banasiewicz remains stable in a Virginia Beach hospital following a crash on Thursday.

DK Bicycles pro Brett Banasiewciz, who remains in critical condition following a crash Thursday at the LXVI BMX Invitational presented by Vans, is reportedly responsive and moving all four limbs, but has not yet opened his eyes, according to Trish Bare Grounds of Bare Essentials Sports Medicine, who was on the scene at the time of the crash. With help from Aaron Cooke at the Athlete Recovery Fund, Brett was joined by his father Bill Banasiewciz, who flew from Indiana to Virginia Beach to be with his son on Thursday night.

Bill Banasiewicz released a statement from the family Friday morning: "Brett remains unconscious and in critical condition but he has remained stable since his initial arrival at the hospital. Brett's neurosurgeon feels strongly that Brett can and should make a full recovery, but it is going to take time for his brain to heal and therefore an unknown amount of time before he wakes up and begins his recovery. Miraculously he sustained no fractures and only minimal bruising and abrasions to his torso, arms and face, all of which will heal quickly. Brett has full use of all of his limbs and is showing stronger usage of arms and legs each time he is evaluated."

Brett's father added that they wanted to thank family, friends, fans and sponsors for the outpouring of support for their son, as well as the Athlete Recovery Fund. In the meantime, the prospect for Banasiewciz's full recovery seems promising. "There are a lot of positives for this great young guy," added Trish Bare Grounds from the hospital.

Bill Banasiewciz added that the family would offer periodic updates to Brett's condition via Facebook and Twitter.

The LXVI BMX Invitational presented by Vans runs in conjunction with the Coastal Edge Surfing Championships and features riders such as Scotty Cranmer, Ryan Guettler, Ryan Nyquist and Cory Nastazio, competing in a triple box jump contest for a $25,000 prize purse.
