    The R.evolution will be... webcast

    By Pat Nugent

    Published Thursday August 23, 2012

In the past, Red Bull has executed some of the most well-planned BMX dirt contests, including Anthony Napolitan's Dreamline and the Jay Miron organized Elevation contest series. This summer, Red Bull is taking a different approach to dirt -- they're organizing an innovative new BMX race dubbed Red Bull R.evolution at the infamous Mellowpark in Berlin, Germany, featuring eleven Olympic BMX race athletes from the London Games.

According to Red Bull, "It's the first opportunity for a revenge, right after the thrilling duels at the season's highlight in London." Racers traveling to Berlin include an international assortment of riders, including Olympic bronze medalist Carlos Oquendo (Colombia), Luis Brethauer and Maik Baier (Germany), Raymond van deer Biezen (Netherlands) and Nic Long (USA). But it's not just London athletes competing in Berlin: racer turned style god Kris Fox and race legend Mike Day are also racing in the event.

The track is of the Supercross variety, designed by Tom Ritzenthaler, who has also constructed all UCI SX tracks. And according to German national BMX coach Florian Ludewig, it trumps even the London Games track. "This is for sure the most demanding supercross track in the world, even excelling Beijing and London. Thanks to the innovative track design, we can reach new speeds," he said.

After the event, the track built by Red Bull will be turned over to Mellowpark. Races begin on Friday, with doors opening at 5 p.m. Berlin time. Entry is 5 Euros. But in case you can't make it, there is a live webcast of the event on the Red Bull site.
