Danny Davis out with broken femur

Danny Davis is out for the off-season with a broken femur.

Burton/MoranDanny Davis is out for the off-season with a broken femur.

Danny Davis broke his femur over the weekend after colliding with an obstacle on course during practice runs at the Burton High Fives event in New Zealand. Davis underwent surgery for the injury and has been dismissed from the hospital.

"It was just a clean broken femur, straight across, and everything is as good as can be expected: great prognosis, all good," says Davis' agent Sue Izzo. "He'll be back in no time."

Izzo downplayed the injury but it's still a tough break for Davis, who had finally been getting back to full strength after recovering from the 2010 back injury that kept him out of the Vancouver Winter Olympics.

Davis returned to competition in 2011 and had failed to place higher than twelfth place in major events including Winter X Games Aspen, the Burton Global Open Series, and the Winter Dew Tour. But a fifth place finish in May at Winter X Tignes 2012 -- behind Shaun White, Louie Vito, Iouri Podladtchikov, and Matt Ladley -- and a strong part in the 2011-2012 Burton team video "Standing Sideways" showed hints of his return to form.

"It's a relatively minor injury in the grand scheme of things, so I don't want to set the alarms and start making everybody freak out," says Izzo. "He broke his femur, received surgery, and has the best prognosis possible. He's just waiting for some of the swelling to go down and will be flying home shortly."

Davis is expected to take several months to fully recover. Bryan Knox, global director of team and media marketing for Burton is hopeful that Davis will be back riding in time for the rest of the 2012-2013 competition season, which resumes in Colorado December 13-16 with the Dew Tour event at Breckenridge.

"Danny is a strong, determined individual," says Knox. "He will get through this minor setback and be back on snow before we know it."
