    McGrath donates video game profits

    By Doug Parsons

    Published Sunday August 5, 2012

Supercross and motocross champion Jeremy McGrath says he will donate all his profits from the "Jeremy McGrath's Offroad" video game, a downloadable racing game developed by 2XL Games, to the Be The Match Foundation. The game was released June 27 for X Box and Playstation Network.

The idea to donate his earnings came after McGrath's wife, Kim McGrath, found a marrow donor match following her recent diagnosis of leukemia. The efforts were made possible through the Be The Match Foundation, a charity organization set up to help those in search of a donor match, and an outpouring of support throughout the motocross community.

Kim McGrath who was diagnosed with leukemia of the skin [leukemia cutis] decided that it was a fight she could not do on her own and after she survived breast cancer two years earlier, this fight was bigger than her.

"It didn't take long for us to realize that this time our battle was bigger than us," Kim McGrath said in a statement. At this realization, Jeremy McGrath reached out to the motocross industry for help with searching out a match for a marrow donor. Some of the bone marrow match drives were set up at Wasserman Media Group/Transworld headquarters in Carlsbad, Calif., Monster Energy headquarters in Corona, Calif., Camp Pendelton's Semper FI Ride Day, AMA Outdoor Nationals at Hangtown in San Bernardino, Calif., and Chaparral Motorsports in San Bernardino.

In a public statement released by McGrath: "First, thank you again to everyone who has helped, donated, gotten tested and sent well-wishes to our family. Your responses to my initial call to action have been incredible and the support and love just seems to continue to pour in. The fact that Kim found a match is really great news for us, but it is our hope that people will still get tested and join the Be the Match Registry. I would also ask that companies that have charitable donation programs and those in the position to do something, please think about making a donation to Be The Match at any time throughout the year. This organization provides a service that literally saves lives every day of the year … it's pretty amazing."

In "Jeremy McGrath's Offroad," players take on the competition in four-wheeled 800 horsepower off-road race trucks with tons of options, including a host of tracks, single-player and multiplayer modes as well as a wide loadout of vehicle classes including rally cars, Pro buggies, and trophylite trucks, all in a crispy 1,080p, 60 frames per second presentation. With multiplayer support for eight racers and a full career mode, "Jeremy McGrath's Offroad" will be the title for racing fans who want to get down and dirty off the track. McGrath's namesake video game is available in a downloadable format through X BOX 360 and PlayStation 3.
