Shaun White to have knee surgery

    ESPN.com

    Published Friday July 27, 2012

Shaun White tweeted on Friday that he will be undergoing knee surgery, forcing him to remove himself from competition at the Ocean City, Md., Dew Tour, Aug. 16-19, the final vert competition of the summer, where he was slated to compete in his first skateboarding event of 2012.

"Getting knee surgery. Not skating, still heading to @DewTour. Thanks to all for the support. be handplanting again soon," read White's Twitter feed.

White last competed at the 2011 Las Vegas Dew Tour Championships, where he finished second behind Pierre-Luc Gagnon at the event and in the series overall, a reversal of the duo's 2011 X Games Los Angeles performances where White edged PLG to win gold.

It's unclear whether his surgery will affect his snowboarding competition schedule this winter.
