During the summer months, each week at Camp Woodward in Pa. and Woodward West in Tehachapi, Calif., ends with a contest for the campers. Judged by visiting pros and camp counselors, the contest is a unique way for campers that visit the world renowned action sports training facilities to experience the rigors of competition and also win prizes.
This summer, the skateboarding contests at Camp Woodward and Woodward West are getting a different treatment -- the Street League treatment. Earlier today, Camp Woodward announced a new partnership with Street League that will allow for skateboarding campers to compete in a Street League formatted series at Woodward, featuring Street League's instant scoring system (ISX).
The winners from both camps events at Camp Woodward and Woodward West will return on the final week of camp to compete in the Woodward Street League Finals. And following the Woodward Finals, the top three skaters from Pennsylvania and California will be invited to compete in front of a live audience at the Woodward SLS Showdown Finals, immediately before the Street League Championship in Newark, N.J. on August 26.
"Partnering with Woodward on the SLS Showdown is a perfect way to integrate our series at the grassroots level by having campers on both coasts experience our format, instant scoring, and even what it's like to skate in front of an arena full of fans at the most important event in skateboarding -- the Street League Championship," says Street League creator Rob Dyrdek.
"I look forward to working with Woodward to make this a staple part of the camper experience," he added.
Now in its third season of competition, Dyrdek's Street League DC Pro Tour fueled by Monster Energy offers a unique take on street skateboarding competitions, featuring revolutionary instant scoring technology, a league that includes 24 of the best competitive street skaters and the largest prize purse in skateboarding history. Broadcast on ESPN and on Street League's official Facebook page, Street League's 2012 series visits Glendale, Ariz. on July 14-15 for stop three of the four-stop tour.To compete in the Woodward Street League Showdown, please visit the Camp Woodward websites for Woodward, Pa. or Woodward West located in Tehachapi, Calif.
