    Ski Areas Still Open

What? You can still ride? Yes, and here's where. Gallery Photo Gallery

It was a Saturday in June, just a couple of weekends ago, and it was a full-on, can't-see-five-feet-ahead-of-you blizzard. This magical summer white room isn't in the southern hemisphere. It's in Oregon. Mount Hood, to be exact. A towering volcano that doesn't care what month it is, if it feels like snowing, it'll dump any day of the year.

I took a few laps at Timberline, happy to be back on my skis after over a month off. The snow was, well, a little sticky but the coverage was good. The park was empty, of course there were no lift lines. The storm eventually passed and the sun came out to shine. All in all, a great day of skiing with friends.

The point here is this: It may officially be summer and it may be 105 degrees and burning fire in various parts of the country. But in other corners of our continent, it's still winter. And there's still plenty of snow to go around. There are even lifts still running at a small handful of spots in North America. Oregon's Timberline, Washington's Crystal Mountain, and British Columbia's Blackcomb are all still open, and Mount Bachelor, Ore., just announced that it would be re-opening for one final weekend, June 29 - July 1. So get off your beach towel and get back out there.
