Charlie Xia/ESPN ImagesAfter competing in X Games Asia, Andy Macdonald has been touring India to "Spread The Love" with Positiv Skateboards.

Fresh off a first-place vert finish at X Games Asia in Shanghai, skate legend Andy Macdonald is leading a crew of athletes through multiple cities in India as part of the Positiv Skateboards "Spread the Love" [STL] tour. STL is an attempt to expose the huge population of India -- second only to neighboring China -- to action sports in what Macdonald claims is "the first tour of this caliber the country has ever seen."

Macdonald and fellow skater Sandro Dias, BMXers Dennis McCoy and Simon Tabron, and FMX riders Tommy Clowers and Dustin Nowak are headlining demos in Bangalore, Hyberabad, Gurgaon, New Delhi, Chandigarh, Ludhiana, Jaipur and Lucknow. With the exception of stops in Hyberabad, Gurgaon, and Chandigarh, the group is playing host to events on multiple days in the other five locations.

Aside from the main events, Macdonald said he and Dias would be running skate promos and clinics at local malls. "Skateboarding is a completely new thing to 99 percent of the population," Macdonald asserted.

The project is a continuation of sorts of a trip Macdonald took to Mumbai in late 2011 as part of the Tony Hawk and Friends skate demo. He said STL is "simply a piggy back of the [Dew Tour]. STL concludes on May 26 in Lucknow in India's northeastern Utter Pradesh province.

Macdonald created Positiv Skateboards in 1997. It falls under the scope of the Skate One Corporation, the banner under which Powell Skateboards and Bones Bearings fall. "I wanted to provide quality completes to a broader distribution," Macdonald said of the venture.

The Positiv team is a small faction consisting of Macdonald, Rodney Jones and Fabrizio Dias. "As a team we concentrate on the positive influence skateboarding has had on our lives and try to share that with other skaters and potential skaters," Macdonald explained.
