A day after winning slopestyle at the AFP World Championships in Whistler, British Columbia, American Gus Kenworthy doubled down with a win in the big air on Saturday night.

Kenworthy crashed on his first run of the two-run finals, and with the pressure on in his second run, he stuck a switch double cork 1620 -- four and a half rotations -- for a score of 95.6, the highest of the night.

"I really liked the jump and the landing was super soft so I knew I wanted to throw that 16," Kenworthy said. "The energy at tonight's event was incredible. I was able to feed off that energy, do the best that I could and come up on top."

Canadian Vincent Gagnier, who landed a bio octogon 1260, took second with a score of 94.2, followed by Australian Russ Henshaw's double 1080 mute to japan, which got a 92.8.

The AFP announced on Sunday morning that Kenworthy also nabbed the overall top ranking in men's big air for the season, unseating the previous leader Kai Mahler, who ended up in third in the final rankings. Thanks to Bobby Brown's fourth place finish in big air at the AFP Championships, he ends the season in second in the big air rankings.

The women's big air took place earlier in the evening, with Sweden's Emma Dahlstrom winning amongst the field of five women. Dahlstrom landed a 360 japan grab for a score of 67.4. "I wanted to do a 7, but conditions were a little tricky so I decided to go for a 3 and keep it safe," Dahlstrom said. Eveline Bhend took second, followed by Rose Battersby in third.

The big air took place under the lights at the base of Whistler with thousands of people in attendance for this week's Telus World Ski and Snowboard Festival, which ends Sunday. A semi-final heat distilled the field of 28 male athletes down to the eight who went onto the finals.

The final contest of the season, the AFP superpipe, takes place Sunday afternoon.
