One's got a famous chin and one's got a confusing twin but, between JP Walker, 35, and Simon Chamberlain, 26, you've easily got two of the most recognized urban riders around. When the dudely duo's Jibberish site is really starting to cook, so we decided to hit them up to find out more about it. Aside from releasing fresh footage all season, the duo plans on putting a "best of" compliation together into full parts, to be available for free downloads, in September. As it turns out, this Jibberish makes perfect sense.
You guys have worked together for a long time. Why did you pursue this two-man combo deal?
Simon Chamberlain: Well, we wanted to do something different. We always do the filming format and film for a video. This is basically the same thing but available free online and we get all the control of the content. I felt we have had enough experience to pull something like this off. There is no one else better to work on this project with than JP.
JP Walker: It started as just a backup plan for filming but we decided that it would be the best thing, for us and our sponsors as well as all the kids who watch our stuff, to pair up for a free web-based video project. We have been grindin' together for a long time and we knew that we can work well together and hammer out something super ambitious like this with minimal help.
How does this format and timing differ from what you've done previously?
SC: With other projects I feel like you kinda disappear through the whole year and then, in September, you have a part come out. Our format has edits coming out all the time.
JP: We just have to feed the beast more frequently than normal but, as far as filming and tricks we want to get, it's pretty much the same look. We can realize our full parts when they are done also so we can be the first to drop in fall.
Is this site only for hardcore rail and ledge junkies?
JP: It's the only one there that will offer high caliber riding all for free. Other sites that have this type of stuff only feature their B shots and extras and only offer up the goods long after the DVD sales have capped. This will be the top notch right out the gate for free.
What does Jibberish bring to the table that's missing in the shred media landscape currently?
SC: Free JP Walker footage all the time!
JP: Maybe what it doesn't have -- like tons of advertising and a low standard for content.
Did you guys know there's a ski brand, Jiberish, with fans hating on your site name?
SC: After we put out our first edit we heard about it so what could we do? We ain't gonna change it. I don't pay attention to the ski industry so I would have never known. I feel like it's two different industries and two different company styles so we just have to deal with it just like they will.
JP: What would our site be without some haters? I'm tired of skiers taking from snowboarders. And learn to spell -- it's two B's in Jibberish.
