Dirksen Derby set for December 17-18

Bet you forgot to enter the Legendary Baker Banked Slalom lottery, didn't you? Well, fear not, because if a fun race is what you're looking for there's more Northwest rallying to be had at the 5th Annual Dirksen Derby December 17-18. Held at namesake Josh Dirksen's home break, Mt. Bachelor, near Bend, Ore., this snowboard, sit-ski and splitboard anti-contest is a fun first "rally race." The entry fee is a paltry $25 per event and all proceeds go to Tyler Eklund, a local who was paralyzed while snowboarding.

To get the full flavor of this laidback event, check the official note on Schedule: "The whole weekend! Depending on weather, snowfall and poor planning, the schedule of the event will remain flexible. All participants are expected to be on-hill both Saturday and Sunday ready to either race the course, cheer on their fellow competitors, bash some windlips or stuff their faces with Parilla clam chowder."

Gotta love Cascadia... The Derby has joined the Baker Banked Slalom and Grenade Games as "must go" events for shreds in the know. Give-aways, no attitudes, and some of the coolest people you'll ever meet will be there. Will you?
