Where to find powder in November

Trent BonaWe are thankful for powder at this time of year.

There might be no other ski area in the U.S. that gets early season powder as consistently as Wolf Creek Ski Area, in the southern San Juan Range of Colorado. Wolf Creek was one of the first ski areas to open when it started running lifts on Oct. 8. Despite only 1,600 acres and 1,604 feet of vertical, the tiny resort average 465 inches of snow a year. And here's the best part: They've already hit the 100-inch mark and it's not even Thanksgiving yet. When I got the call to join brothers Will and Ed Dujardin on a recent trip to Wolf Creek, in the midst of a 26-inch storm and mid-winter-like conditions, it wasn't hard to accept the offer. From rope drop to last chair, we lapped fresh turns to the end. Here's proof that powder does exist in November.
