On a recent trip to Milwaukee, Wis., Mankind/Profile pro Jeff Klugiewicz took me to a unique DIY spot he's been building and riding at for the past few years called Estabrook.
Located in Estabrook Park, this homemade skatepark used to be a tennis courts that went neglected. Eventually, it was transformed into a roller hockey rink, but then went abandoned again. Afterwards, the lot became overgrown with weeds and sat vacant for years. Then local skateboarders decided to take it over -- the first ramp at the park was a mini-ramp brought in from some skater's backyard, and it continued to grow.
Bikers and skaters didn't get along at first at Estabrook, but everything started to improve after the BMXers started putting in their share of upkeep on the place. Now everyone gets along and the place is filled with unique ramps, an assortment of rails, a pole jam, wedges, mini-ramp and QuickCrete throughout. What follows is a small glimpse into the world of Estabrook Park.
