I'm a Ryan Sheckler fan and have been since first seeing his mom, Gretchen, on our first road trip together for World Industries 11 years ago when young Ryan was only a decade old. Over the years people have flipped flopped on the kid and then flipped back more than a few time mostly thanks to his is crying eye portrayal on his hit MTV show, "Life of Ryan." I still bust his chops about that "chill girl" bit but I know he comes from a good family and is genuinely a good kid. I also know that Sheckler might be one of the gnarliest skaters I've ever seen first hand.
I just returned from a Red Bull road trip with Sheckler for Skateboarder magazine and he murdered every spot we visited in the hopes of having one hell of a Plan B video part next year. There were a few things Sheckler tried jumping off that would have made Aaron "Jaws" Homoki squeamish ... and Sheckler wasn't just ollieing off of them. He was pulling frontside and backside flips well above double overhead; it was gnarly. Somewhere along the way I stopped to ask Sheckler about the new Plan B video, his renewed acceptance among core skaters and, for me most importantly, the potential of seeing Danny Way and Colin McKay street skating on film in the near future.
