Citing head trauma, Drew Bezanson has officially withdrawn from competition at the Dew Tour opener.

BMX Park competitor and X Games 17 invite Drew Bezanson has officially withdrawn from competition at the Dew Tour Pantech Open in Ocean City, Md. this weekend, citing head trauma sustained while riding in Toronto, Ontario last month.

According to Drew, he failed to recognize the severity of the injury at the time it occurred, and has only recently begun to undergo the necessary medical care to make a full recovery.

"I haven't felt right since I took that crash, but continued to ride at several events and demos, believing I was just tired, jet lagged, etc. So at this point, it's a relief to have identified my problem and be able to begin healing from it," said Bezanson on Thursday.

Unfortunately, with X Games 17 just days away, this begs the question -- will Drew Bezanson be able to ride BMX Park next week? Drew remains hopeful that he will be able to, but head trauma isn't the easiest injury to bounce back from. In extreme situations, head trauma and severe concussions can take weeks or months to recover from.

Bezanson, 22, typically wears a helmet when riding Park, and has had ongoing issues with his shoulder. Last year, at Bezanson's first X Games competition, he finished in 20th place because of problems with his shoulder.

Bezanson's current sponsors include Red Bull, Toyota, DK, Skullcandy, POC Helmets, Shadow Conspiracy, Equilibryum and Ryder Distro.
