Now in their second year of operation, the Nate Adams'-owned DEFT Family continues to make moves in the moto industry by creating unstoppable hype, and following up with innovative new products. For 2011, DEFT has continued to grow their top tier and they've also added two new models of gloves to their line: The Catalyst 2 and the Artisan, which is a strapless glove. With the popularity of their perfectly fitting and unique gloves, DEFT has also garnered the attention of big companies like DC Shoes and Skullcandy, who are now collaborating with the young startup. The first collaboration glove to hit the market, in mid-April, will be the DC Shoes Catalyst 2 glove.
WHAT IT IS:
Taking what they learned from their first generation Catalyst glove, the Catalyst 2 is a refined version of the original featuring an all around better fit, which is what they've become known for. With the construction down pat, all DEFT and DC had to do was team up to create a unique design scheme that popped while making sure the iconic DC logo remained visible.
WHY IT RULES:
In 2011, riders you can find sporting the DEFT DC Catalyst 2 gloves are Nate Adams, Travis Pastrana, Robbie Maddison and Jeremy McGrath -- all DC team riders. With a supporting cast of that caliber, rocking the gloves will surely make you feel like part of the elite team fortunate enough to don the five-fingered pieces of art.
"We think it's a good fit for both brands and we're really excited to team up with a brand as strong as DC in only our second year as a brand," stated product designer and co-owner Logan Darien. "The collabo came about because obviously Nate is a main DC athlete, and so they just really wanted to support him and what were doing over here at DEFT Family, which is very flattering."
On top of being one of the coolest collaborations in the moto market, the Catalyst 2 glove is simply amazing, with a next-to-nothing, super-thin feel that doesn't bunch or restrict.
WHERE TO FIND IT:
Available sometime in mid-April, the DEFT DC Catalyst 2 glove can be purchased via deftfamily.com, btosports.com and select Southern Calif. motorcycle dealers. The glove comes in two colorways: Yellow/blue and blue/white.
