It has been 23 years since the release of Greg Stump's pioneering ski classic "The Blizzard of Aahhh's" and eight years since Chamonix-dwelling and California native Glen Plake has called the U.S. home, but, as Plake so poignantly proved on Saturday at Washington's Hyak Mountain at the Summit at Snoqualmie, ski heroes never go out of style. And neither does powder ballet.
I caught up with Plake and Kimberly, his wife of 20 years, at the tail end of a two-week storm that dropped seven feet of snow on parts of the Cascades. The Plakes were in Washington on their Down Home Tour, slowly making their way to Sun Valley, where Plake is to be inducted into the U.S. Ski and Snowboard Hall of Fame during Ski Heritage Week, March 27 to April 3.
