It's been a weird winter in the Atlantic. Back in December, it was all we could do to stay on top of the frequent swells -- big honking south swells in the Mid-Atlantic, crazy refraction events off South Florida, thundering norths barging through the Caribbean, and snowstorm waves up in New England.
Then 2011 hit and everything cooled off. Most of the East Coast has had an abysmally inconsistent winter. The Caribbean had yet to see those reds come wandering down on the swell charts. Well, last week things finally turned around for the Islands, where the first proper north swell changed some moods. Not only did the locals log some much-needed water time, but the boys from the East Coast, and even a few West Coast pros showed up to collect.
