First look at The North Face Masters
A first look at The North Face Masters finals venue with Ralph Backstrom:
The first contest in the three-stop North Face Masters big mountain snowboarding contest is currently underway in Snowbird, Utah. Qualifiers went down yesterday under bright sunny skies and saw NFM contest veterans Aaron Robinson and Mark Carter moving into the final event in the top ten, and "Deeper" star Ryland Bell huck a 3 off a cliff that landed him in the top three.
"Every year [the contest] gets better and better," said head judge Tom Burt. "We are really stoked on everyone's runs."
"It was a fantastic first day," said Rob Kingwill of Jackson Hole, WY who tied for 13th. "This was my third time competing in the event at Snowbird, and it's a really fun venue with lots of features."
Unfortunately, today some weather moved in, bringing 3-4 inches of new snow, but also winds sustaining at 30-35 mph with gusts up to 75 mph. For safety reasons, the final has been postponed until tomorrow. It will take place on North Baldy, starting at 10 a.m. MST. You can watch the webcast live at thenorthfacemasters.com.
Please note, 35 men have qualified for the finals. We have only listed the top 13, to match up with the top 13 ladies moving into the finals, below.
