While rumblings in the Pacific are at the forefront of most everybody's radar at present, across the pond Old World surfers are quietly gearing up for Quiksilver's La Vaca Gigante IV, held at infamous Spanish big-wave spot La Vaca near the city of Santander.
After enduring a lengthy two-month waiting period, organizers have called the event on for Mon., Jan 17. With surf forecast to top out over five meters, or approximately 20 feet, the 16 competitors are all busying themselves with dialing in their boards and getting to the coast on time. And with a healthy 10,000 euros on the table for first, there's more than just respect on the line.
Still waiting on a final roster of who will be surfing, but it could be a brilliant warm-up if they're talking Eddie the end of the week. Stay tuned for results.
