Fall faceshots

You have to see it to believe it. There is powder to be found at this time of year. Launch Gallery»

We promise there has been no photo tampering in this gallery, no magic Photoshop tool that makes the powder look fluffier and deeper than it should be at this time of year. No manmade powder or artificially blue skies. It's all real. And yes, it's only November.

Last week, skiers and snowboarders everywhere from Vermont to Washington enjoyed some early season face shots. Jackson Hole reported 42 inches; Alta reported 44. Only a handful of resorts are even open yet -- Colorado's Loveland, Arapahoe Basin, and Wolf Creek, as well as Boreal in California and Timberline in Oregon. So most of these shots were earned the hard way -- hiking for your turns. But opening day is coming quick for resorts around the country. Stay tuned to our Winter Watch for the latest on which resorts are opening when.

Enough words. Go check out the shots and see for yourself how the winter is already shaping up.
