About 45 minutes north, away from all the hectic LA traffic, is a chill city by the name of Santa Barbara. A small beach town, that I would describe as upscale, ritzy and an expensive place to live but home to a rad set of trails and locals. Ian Munro, Chris Arriaga and Cody Bowers, are far from rich snobs though and are quite the opposite. Just like most BMXers, they grind it day to day to make ends meet, just so they can spend their time off digging and riding at their trails, all for the love of it. The weather may not be idle where they're at either but some how they've managed to keep the trails going for a few years now, and they've become quite impressive. Since I haven't been able to make it out there myself, I sent photographer Jeremy Pavia out on assignment to spend the day shooting there and this is what he came back with. Here's more from Jeremy.
"Trails in Southern California are hard to come by, so whenever I get the invite to check some out you better believe I make it a priority to get some runs in. The latest trail session went down in Santa Barbara with a tight knit crew of riders. Chris Arriaga, Ian Munro and Cody Bowers have all been friends for years and having a set of trails to call their own is something they take pride in and for good reason. Join them for a day at the trails and be prepared to do as much laughing as you do riding. They are down for whatever, have some super creative lines and have more fun than most riders simply because they don't take things too seriously and that is the only way to do it. The set-up they have going is pretty dialed and although it takes a lot of work to maintain trails in a place where rain is about as common as a Bigfoot sighting and the dirt is either workable or pure sand; they make it happen." -Jeremy PaviaLaunch Santa Barbara Trail Gallery »
