What's next? A quadcork. That sounds insane. But, so did the triple cork until yesterday when Torstein Horgmo dropped one on the World Wide Web. His triple cork, er...Tornado twirl, stein flip, or whatever we're calling it, went viral quicker than the Afro ninja and could easily be called "the shot seen round the world." Google "Torstein Horgmo's triple cork" and you'll get more than 84,000 links. In just over a day the video has already played 92,000 times on Vimeo. Wonder if he has a Vimeo incentive in his contract. He should.
Even the skiers are flipping. ESPN's John Symms blogged about it and wrote, "It might not be skiing, but every skier is talking about this." And from sounds of it we have some skiers to thank for documenting the deed. Field Productions had all the anlges covered in Norway and according to Horgmo's Vimeo page, "There's this one and three more ultra detailed ones including a "Red Camera" angle all shot by Field Productions and a photo sequence shot by Olav Stubberud. It will all be released in the near future at anytime pretty soon now, ish..."
Never two to be outdone, the brother's Helgason are already holed up in a lab trying to wrap their heads around all that twisting and spinning. Everyone wants a piece of it. Even famed filmer Pierre Wikberg said he's gonna cash in for consulting Horgmo on the trick. And as can be imagined the release of this video lit up Horgmo's Facebook page. As of this morning Lonnie Kauk and 113 others "Like This."
"Awsm," was the most common comment. (AWSM is Horgmo's crew.) Robbie Sell collected some other selects here. Most notably Tyler Flanagan called out Sage Kotsenburg, claiming, "You're next Sage."
Kotsenburg's response: "Haha, Mt. Hood is so going down."
We can only imagine. But, I'm sure we'll see...and probably soon. Everyone knew it was just a matter of time, but how many guessed we'd see it this season? Or, for that matter, on the Internet first. So much for keeping your shots a secret all summer and saving the excitement for those September premieres. Now is the time in this Internet age and now that the world's seen it there's no doubt dudes are going to be tripling up all summer. So, I guess the real question is: Who's next?Untill then...trip out on the triple one more time.
