Shortly after winning his second consecutive Olympic gold medal in February, rumors began to circulate that Shaun White was in the market for a theatrical agent to help him transition into movies, music and television. Last week, those rumors turned out to be true. Although most folks speculated White would remain with longtime agent Mark Ervin at IMG, as well as sign with a Hollywood agency, White ended his relationship with Ervin and IMG last week and began negotiations with CAA to handle both his sports and entertainment deals and his marketing.
Although a deal with CAA has not be signed and neither agency is willing to comment, it seems inevitable the deal will be completed shortly. According to the folks I've spoken to since Monday, the split from Ervin/IMG was amicable and his move to a new PR agency had nothing to do with his dissatisfaction with his post-Olympic PR efforts, as reported in the Sports Business Journal story that broke the news on Monday.
