As I prepare for Memorial Day weekend, I can't help but think of good friends who have passed. Though Memorial Day is meant to remember and honor those who have died while fighting for our freedom, I feel that we should also honor those who have made a huge impact on FMX ... those who are no longer with us.
I've personally lost four friends/colleagues who were not only insane FMX riders, but genuine people that were taken much too soon. Adam Pierce, Jeremy Carter, Mike Cinqmars and Jeremy Lusk. So, without being too much of a downer, I would just like for everyone to remember these amazing guys and all they did for the sport of freestyle motocross.
While collecting photos for Marc Burnette's recent feature story "The Hardest Working Man in FMX," penned by Paul Taublieb, Burnette emailed me a handful of photos of both Carter and Lusk -- as they were regular fixtures on his tours. But, there was just something about this photo of them together that really caught my attention. It's so hard to realize they're no longer with us, but you can guarantee they're shredding the wheels off their bikes in heaven. Rest in peace brothas, and to everyone celebrating Memorial Day, be sure to make it a safe one.
