Cory Lopez will now be getting a burst from Rockstar Energy Drink, as their newest marquis rider. Lopez surfed the WCT from 1997 to 2007. and an X Games Gold Medalist three times. In that time, he also showed what was possible at Teahu'poo. He formerly surf for Monster.
"Rockstar's support of surfing with the O'Neill World Cup in Hawaii as part of the Vans Triple Crown really shows their commitment to the sport," said Lopez. According to Rockstar's VP of Marketing, Frank Guernsey, and Steve Ward, O'Neill's VP of Marketing, the two companies will be working together a bit in the future.
This has been quite a year for Lopez. Earlier this winter, his friends and family gathered in Costa Rica for his wedding.
Lopez is currently in Western Australia, competing at the Margarette River Drug Aware Pro. This event is a 6-star prime. So, if there's any questions about his intentions this year, that should answer them. A few good finishes in this transition year and he could be back in the hunt by summer.
